A Quote:
A quote is generally quick to prepare, with minimal detail or discussion as to the services to be undertaken and provided. The consultant will quote what has been requested, with little or minimal further investigation.
A friend recently enquired about the cost of replacing a colorbond roof?
They received a Quote response with a single line description with a quoted fee.
On further investigation and discussion, it was identified that the quote did include installation of a solar blanket under the roof, but did not include the replacement of the existing downpipes. There was no description of what style or colour of colourbond roof was to be installed.
This is an example of provision of a Quote response to the service or works “as requested”, without any understanding what the underlying actual needs of the client’s request involved.
A Quote runs the risk that the service being quoted, may not be in alignment with the “true” expectations of the client, due to the limited detail contained within the Quote proposal or its initial request.
A Fee Proposal:
A consultant could choose to Quote on the survey service “as requested”, similar to the example of the roof replacement my friend received above, or they could take the time to make additional enquiries about your actual survey needs and provide a Fee Proposal that will provide clearer detail and understanding of what is to be delivered and how it can be used for you and your other consultants benefits..
A request for Title Re-establishment survey?
- to replace a fence,
- or for proposed development/subdivision of the property
has significantly different survey standards and survey documentation to be prepared.
Understanding the underlying purpose of your project, can help identify whether
“You need Fries with that”
so that the consultant can provide the Fee Proposal to meet your “project needs”
not just a Quote to satisfy what has been “requested”
Thomas & George P/L care about your project and its success, and will take the time to prepare a Fee Proposal based on our understanding of your immediate and future needs of your project.
If engaging a professional surveying consultant that can provide guidance and cares about your project are the personal traits that are appealing to you, then please don’t hesitate to contact our Lilydale office with your enquiry.
