The State Government made significant changes to all Victorian Planning Schemes, including the "protection of human life from bushfires" above all other planning considerations.
These recent changes may make development and subdivision in high bushfire risk townships affected by the Bushfire Management Overlay more difficult, and consideration of minimisation of bushfire risk from not just the site but the greater surrounding landscape of the district will need to be considered and justified. Some applications not affected by the Bushfire Management Overlay will likely still need bushfire risk consideration if located within a Bushfire Prone area.
